RESOLVED Wordpress breaks when trying to pass querystrings

Any time I try to pass querystrings into a wordpress permalink page for Woody Snipet to pick up and print, it does not work and the page breaks and gives a 404 error. How do I fix this?

im using permalinks.

www.mysite.com/category/post/

if I add a uqery string to that permalink url, the page breaks.

Example: www.mysite.com/category/post/?name=Bob
I want that variable (name) to print the value "Bob" in the body of the wordpress page.

However the query string breaks the page. I think this has to do with conflict in permalink url re-writing and not carrying values over after being rewritten
